The Trust is a volunteer, non-profit organization whose mission is the protection of areas of ecological importance, such as marshes, woodlands, and seashores; the promotion of public interest in conservation and smart development; and the preservation of properties of unique historic interest or unusual beauty.
In the late 1960’s a group of Cohasset residents banded together to save Bassing Beach from imminent development. Their fund-raising efforts, combined with a donation of some of the land, enabled this special place to be permanently protected for conservation and public recreation. The Cohasset Conservation Trust grew from this initiative.
While recognizing the need for development, opportunity remains to preserve natural assets, open spaces, and wildlife habitats for future generations. The Trust provides a suitable vehicle for doing so.
